How we read the data

Tier-1 regulation

For us “tier-1” means at least one of the broker’s entities is licensed by one of these regulators: ASIC, FCA, CySEC, BaFin, CNMV, FINMA, MAS, JFSA, CFTC/NFA, CIRO. They require capital, segregated client money, leverage and marketing limits and offer a compensation or complaints scheme. Intermediary-only licences, mere registrations and announced-but-not-live licences do not count. What matters is which entity holds your account — the full text is in the side-by-side view.

Commission, deposit, VPS

Commission = raw/ECN account, per standard lot round turn in USD. If the fact box only states a per-side amount we double it; if it is a percentage of notional, “per 1M volume” or has no stated basis, we show “n/a” — we do not convert. Minimum deposit only in USD (EUR amounts: n/a). “Free VPS yes” means free under published conditions (usually volume or deposit); “pro/VIP only” does not count. Brokers showing “n/a” drop out while a numeric filter is active.

Cost calculator: formula

Monthly cost = lots × (round-turn commission + avg. spread × pip value) + VPS. EURUSD: 1 lot = 100,000 EUR, 1 pip = 0.0001 → 10 USD per pip and lot. XAUUSD: 1 lot = 100 oz → 1 USD per 0.01 USD price move; an average spread of 0.12 USD therefore costs 12 USD per lot. VPS is only added if it is not free at your volume and the fact box states a monthly USD price. We do not carry the FX commission over to gold — without a documented gold commission the broker counts as incomplete.

Why no swaps?

Swaps (overnight financing) depend on direction, holding time, interest differential and the triple swap on Wednesday — zero for a scalper, often the largest cost for a grid EA holding positions for weeks. A flat monthly figure would be a guess. Check the swap rates for your instrument in the contract specification inside MetaTrader.

Spread sources

We only use average spreads that the broker itself publishes for its raw/ECN account — no “from” values, no third-party data, no estimates. Documented for 6 of 18 brokers; all others appear in the calculator as “spread not documented”.
