Frequently asked questions

What is a pip?

A pip ("percentage in point") is the smallest standard price move of a currency pair: 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for JPY pairs (e.g. USD/JPY). For 1 standard lot (100,000 units) one pip in EUR/USD equals 10 units of the quote currency.

How is pip value calculated?

Pip value in the quote currency = pip size × position size in units. Example EUR/USD, 1 standard lot: 0.0001 × 100,000 = 10 USD per pip. To express it in your account currency, multiply by the current quote-to-account conversion rate.

How do I calculate lot size from risk?

Risk amount = balance × risk %. Lots = risk amount ÷ (stop-loss in pips × pip value per standard lot in account currency). With a 10,000 balance, 1% risk, 50 pip stop and 10/pip that is 100 ÷ (50 × 10) = 0.2 lots.

Does the calculator use live exchange rates?

No. All results are pure formulas from your inputs plus an editable conversion rate. For pairs not quoted in your account currency, you enter the current quote-to-account rate yourself.
